NORTHWESTERN COFFEE MILLS®

DARK ROASTS
The longer we roast coffee, the darker and glossier it gets. Our darkest roast is Espresso but it is not an ultra-dark West Coast roast. We prefer clasic European-style French and Expresso roasts or blends of dark and lighter roasts with a bite and brazen dark roast flavor.

ORGANIC COFFEE
It is ironic that innovation in quality coffee production has prompted a return to its organic origins. Small, independent holdings, shaded for slow maturity, hardy, flavorful tree varieties and intensive hand cultivation all combine to produce top quality under the right growing conditions. Many organic coffees meet the criteria of shade grown and/or bird friendly, fair trade and sustainable production. This topic is very well addressed in a 36 page essay and bibliography on the web by Jennifer McLean at Coffee Contact.

ESPRESSO DECAFF
This decaff has a bite without the kick. It is heavy but not overpowering - a nice sipping after dinner coffee. It is a lightly heavy contradiction in terms but not taste.

ESPRESSO EXCELSO - Northern Italy
This refined version of our darkest roast begins as Columbian Excelso and ends as a surprisingly smooth straight up cafe style espresso coffee.

ESPRESSO ORGANIC
We use a Nicaraguan Segovia coffee to create an example of the new world coffee at its best - refreshing, adaptable and strong but understated.

ESPRESSO ROAST - Southern Italy
We use a dry processed Brazil coffee for our darkest, sharpest roast to give it a strong South Italian flavor. It is intense and likes mixing and a change of pace.

FRENCH ALTISIMO
We roast this lighter bodied French roast as an elegant counterpoint to its more playful cousin - richly smooth, with a subtle aroma and a Continential flair.

FRENCH ORGANIC
A classic coffee house dark roast - good with syrups and cream. A broadly appealing dark flavor with an earthy character that easly wins flavor smiles.

FRENCH ROAST
This coffee has just a hint of a sharp, long roasted flavor without the charred bitterness commonly passed of as dark roast. It is lighter and sweeter than espresso.

VIENNA ROAST ORGANIC
The lightest dark roast stands subtly between standard full roasts and the French/espresso roasts. It has a flavor with a hint of darkness but no obvious bite. It is a great cupping and sitting outdoor cafe or deck coffee.

ORGANIC COFFEE
Our organics have coffee merit as well as being certified pesticide free. Organic coffee is intensively havd cultivated There is not currently a year-round supply of first quality organic coffees available. The longer a plantation has been organic, the better the coffee. All our organics are top quality. Our selection may vary throughout the year based on availability.
